About the Role

As a member of the MDC team, you will report to the Associate Director – Operations.

You will be expected to liaise with clients, architects, and other members of our internal team with confidence and clarity.

You will be committed to the development of high-quality and cost-efficient design solutions for our clients by having a solid understanding of electrical engineering principles, standards, codes and practical design experience.

Your responsibilities as a Lead/Senior Electrical Engineer will include but are not limited to:

  • Perform electrical services design from concept, feasibility study to detail design, contract documentation and construction documentation.
  • Perform electrical engineering detail design calculations such as Powercad, AGI32 and Dialux.
  • Produce Concepts and detailed designs in line and with client requirements.
  • Able to review and understand the project 3D model and architectural design drawings in relation to building services.
  • Deliver high-quality technical design within scope, timeframe and budget.
  • Review vendor/manufacturer’s documentation.
  • Provide technical support to the onsite construction team, projects department and estimating department.
  • Conducting value engineering (VE) exercises on projects.
  • Be familiar with and understand the relevant Australian Standards and Building Code of Australia/NCC.
  • Client liaison and management skills.
  • Manage projects including coordination with other services.
  • Client and external design team liaison.

Necessary Qualifications, Skills and Experience required for this role 

To be considered for this role, you should be able to hold or demonstrate the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in electrical engineering within the building services.
  • Experienced in coaching and mentoring a team.
  • Must hold a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • CPEng, NER, and RPEQ certification will be highly regarded but not essential.
  • Highly developed proficiency in electrical building services engineering in line with the NCC and Australian Standards.
  • Working knowledge of drafting tools such as AutoCAD. Understanding of REVIT would be advantageous.
  • Strong project management and services coordination experience.

Necessary Qualifications, Skills, and Experience required for this role

 To be considered for this role, you should be able to hold or demonstrate the following qualifications, skills, and experience:

  • Mechanical Engineering Qualification
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience as a mechanical engineer with building services experience in Australia. Consultancy experience is desirable.
  • High proficiency in AutoCAD is a must (proficiency in Revit would be highly desirable)
  • Working towards achieving CPEng, NER, and RPEQ certification will be highly regarded
  • Able to design and complete documentation of air-conditioning and ventilation systems
  • Able to read and apply design manuals and understand project-specific design guidelines while implementing them in the design
  • Complete heat load calculations using CAMEL, HAP, and/or relevant software
  • Able to prepare concept sketches (hand markups or Bluebeam markups)
  • Prepare drawings, plans, and designs for mechanical engineering works under the direction of Lead Mechanical Engineer with minimal input.
  • Experience with other building services coordination (Electrical, Fire, and Hydraulics)
  • Coordinate with architectural and structural requirements
  • REVIT, NAVIS works, BIM modelling, and clash detection modelling will be encouraged
  • Ability to prioritise and think strategically about timing and method of delivering project information
